Each week I will post my "Dick's Dow Jones" report on whose stock is up and whose is down from across the world of sports.
Stock up: Gonzalez, the Florida Marlins
Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Luis Gonzalez is having a tremendous season and is among the NL leaders in batting. He's hit 32 home runs, a career high, and he's one of the key reasons for Arizona's lead in the NL West.
The Florida Marlins have won eight of their last 10 games. Tony Perez is doing a great job and Florida has some nice young players. Cliff Floyd has been on a tear, and Mike Lowell at third base is very underrated. Preston Wilson is another potential All-Star, and the young starting pitching is solid with Ryan Dempster, A.J. Burnett and Brad Penny.
Stock down: Mets, Red Sox, Hingis
The Mets and Red Sox were both swept at home. Boston's losses to Toronto gave the Yankees a chance to climb back into the thick of the AL East race.
Bobby Valentine's Mets really miss Edgardo Alfonzo in the lineup. Mike Piazza and company made it to the World Series last year, but this season is a very different story unless the Mets can turn it around big time.
Also, stock down to Martina Hingis, who was sent out in Shock City style at Wimbledon in the first round.
