In the past, nobody has been more critical than me of some of Jerry Krause's decisions as general manager of the Chicago Bulls. It still blows my mind that he let Elton Brand go -- a young, talented, proven star -- for a pair of high school stars (Tyson Chandler and Eddy Curry) in the same draft.

Jerry Krause has that special ingredient known as work ethic.

While I've been critical of some of his moves, I have to say he's the most underappreciated guy in professional basketball, maybe of all time. Think about it: He was a workaholic. I can't tell you how many college basketball games I broadcast where I would see Krause, working and evaluating talent.
Don't forget, the Chicago Bulls won six NBA titles. Don't believe he didn't play a vital part in making that happen. Look at the talent he brought in to surround his superstar, Michael Jordan the Magnificent. Krause put his stamp on the Bulls.
For some reason, he has never received the credit he deserved. It's sad to see Krause go out. He was beaten by his own players who took shots at him. This guy poured his heart and soul into serving the Bulls franchise.
Krause has that special ingredient known as work ethic. He could always roll up his sleeves and go to battle; Krause is a lot stronger than most, including yours truly. It amazes me how he could take the heat and beatings he took in the media yet come back strong.

Year after year, he put together lots of solid clubs. Say what you want about him: The bottom line is that he doesn't dress up with the flair of many. He doesn't wear the shirt and tie, he doesn't have the hair decked out, he doesn't have the body of an Arnold Schwarzenegger or the looks of a Tom Cruise. All he does is work and produce.
That's what Bulls owner Jerry Reinsdorf paid him for, and Krause earned every dollar working for him.
I want to wish Jerry Krause all the best in retirement, and I hope all goes well in resolving his health issues. Jerry baby, don't think your work ethic, diligence and dedication wasn't recognized. We disagreed on a player or two, but I always respected your incredible work ethic.
