Point Given Redeems, Wins Preakness
After a disappointing fifth-place finish in the May 5 Kentucky Derby, the Bob Baffert-trained Point Given redeemed himself two weeks later at old Pimlico, winning the 126th running of the Preakness Stakes as the 2-1 favorite under jockey Gary Stevens. As for Derby winner Monarchos, who finished a dull sixth in the Triple Crown's middle jewel, jockey Jorge Chavez and trainer John Ward claimed the colt didn't take to the Pimlico racing surface -- an excuse Jay Cronley finds implausible.
