Fifty Stars to have surgery By Jay Privman Daily Racing Form Fifty Stars, who finished ninth in Saturday's Kentucky Derby, came out of the race with a chip in his right front ankle and will have it removed surgically, trainer Steve Asmussen said Tuesday. Fifty Stars, who is owned by Jim Cassels and Bob Zollars, won the Louisiana Derby, then finished second in the Lone Star Derby before the Kentucky Derby. He will be sidelined for at least 90 days, Asmussen said. "He walked fine after the race," Asmussen said. "But there was some inflammation. We took a look at it, and there it was." Asmussen said Dr. Alex Harthill would perform the surgery to remove the chip. |
