GAME LOG
PITTSBURGH (Ticker) -- The season opener between the Houston Astros and Pittsburgh Pirates was postponed due to rain. Umpires called the game after a 30-minute delay. It will be made up on Tuesday, originally an off day for both teams. The pitching matchups will be the same with Houston's Shane Reynolds facing Pittsburgh's Jason Schmidt in a battle of righthanders. The series continues on Wednesday and Thursday. Reynolds was 16-14 with a 3.85 ERA last season but went 0-3 against the Pirates. Schmidt was 13-11 with a 4.19 ERA. Outfielder Moises Alou returns to the Astros' lineup after missing all of last year with a torn knee ligament. Catcher Jason Kendall is back for Pittsburgh after suffering a dislocated ankle on July 4 and missing the rest of the year. The Pirates are beginning their final season at Three Rivers Stadium, which will close on October 1 after 30 years. The team will move into $201 million PNC Park in 2001.
