RECAP | BOX SCORE | GAME LOG

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) -- The Chicago White Sox hit four home runs, including consecutive shots by Chris Singleton and Carlos Lee in the fifth inning, to beat the Tampa Bay Devil Rays 13-6 on Tuesday night.

Singleton hit a two-run homer that put Chicago up 6-5, and Lee followed with a solo shot that extended his hitting streak to eight games.

Ray Durham hit a leadoff homer and Paul Konerko, who went 4-for-5 with four RBI, had a two-run inside-the-park homer in the first inning for the White Sox.

Konerko also had a two-run double during a four-run eighth-inning.

Chicago's Frank Thomas, who had a cortisone shot Monday for tendinitis in the inner heel of his right foot, left after five innings with a sore right foot. He went 1-for-3 as the designated hitter and has a hit in all eight games.

Jose Canseco and Greg Vaughn homered for the Devil Rays, who have dropped six of their past seven games.

White Sox starter Jim Parque (1-1) gave up five runs -- three earned _ and six hits in five innings. The left-hander has allowed 11 runs over nine innings in two starts.

Chicago, at 5-3, is above the .500 mark after eight games for the first time since 1994.

Tampa Bay took a 4-3 lead after a 32-minute first inning that saw the teams hit two home runs apiece.

Durham hit his 11th career leadoff homer -- his second this season -- and Konerko had a two-run inside-the-park homer as Chicago went up 3-0.

Ron Karkovice had the last White Sox inside-the-park homer on August 30, 1990 at Minnesota.

The Devil Rays responded in the bottom of the first as Canseco hit a two-run homer, Vaughn had solo shot and John Flaherty added an RBI double.

Canseco's first homer of the season was a 425-foot shot to center.

Devil Rays starter Esteban Yan (0-1) allowed seven runs, four homers and 10 hits in five innings. He struck out a career-high seven.

Tampa Bay third baseman Vinny Castilla (strained left rib cage muscle) was activated from the 15-day disabled list before the game and went 0-for-4. It was the first time this season Tampa Bay had all four of its sluggers -- Castilla, Canseco, Vaughn and Fred McGriff -- in the starting lineup.

The lineup only remained intact until the seventh inning when Vaughn was thrown out of the game for arguing a third strike call with home plate umpire Bill Miller.
