RECAP | BOX SCORE | GAME LOG

CLEVELAND (AP) _ Texas scored five runs off Bartolo Colon in the first inning, then survived a Cleveland rally highlighted by Jim Thome's 200th career home run as the Rangers beat the Indians 6-4 Saturday.

Ivan Rodriguez went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBIs to lead the Rangers.

The Rangers have won seven of their last eight games against the Indians and are 9-3 against Cleveland since the start of 1999.

Colon (2-1) lasted just 3 1-3 innings, giving up six runs and nine hits. He didn't fool Texas from the start.

Rodriguez sparked the big first when he doubled off the right-field wall to score Chad Curtis, then scored on David Segui's single.

Gabe Kapler singled home two runs and Luis Alicea hit a line-drive triple down the right-field line.

Rodriguez also singled home Royce Clayton in the fourth inning.

Mark Clark (2-0), a former Indian whose 1999 season was cut short by a torn ligament in his right elbow, didn't allow a Cleveland batter to reach base until walking Roberto Alomar in the fourth inning.

Clark held the Indians to just one hit through 5 1-3 innings but then gave up four quick runs _ capped by Thome's three-run homer into the left-field stands _ and never got another out.

John Wetteland pitched the ninth for his first save.

Clark is now 12-3 at Jacobs Field, with 11 of those wins coming when he was pitching for the Indians in 1994 and '95. Cleveland traded him to the New York Mets in March 1996.

Notes: Texas placed Rusty Greer on the 15-day disabled list before the game. He's suffering from a strained left hamstring and bone spurs in his right ankle. He'll have surgery for the bone spurs Sunday and will be out 4-6 weeks. To replace Greer, the Rangers purchased Jason McDonald from Oklahoma of the Pacific Coast League. ... The Indians gave Kenny Lofton the day off. Jacob Cruz started in center field. ... Alomar and his brother, Sandy Alomar, each had throwing errors, giving Cleveland its first multi-error game of the season. ... The loss left Cleveland's rookie manager, Charlie Manuel, still looking for his first win at Jacobs Field. He's 0-2.
