PHOENIX (AP) -- Pitching with a torn rotator cuff that never was surgically repaired, Todd Stottlemyre has become the National League's third six-game winner.

"It's still going to be my goal to pitch nine innings again someday, but other than that, I don't care about my personal numbers so much at this point in my career," Stottlemyre said. "I'm just trying to win a world championship."

	Todd Stottlemyre has won six games despite pitching beyond the sixth inning only once.

Stottlemyre allowed one run for the second consecutive outing, scattering seven hits in 5 2/3 innings as the Arizona Diamondbacks won their fourth in a row, 8-1 over the San Diego Padres on Sunday.

Luis Gonzalez broke out of a 2-for-25 slump with a single and a two-run double in a seven-run fifth inning that helped Arizona complete the three-game sweep.

Steve Finley had a two-run single, while Damian Miller and Tony Womack each had RBI doubles in the uprising for Arizona, which had a six-run second inning in Saturday's 10-5 victory.

Because of his questionable shoulder, which he has built up with long hours in the weight room to compensate for the injury, Stottlemyre's pitch count has not been allowed to reach 100. He's pitched beyond the sixth inning only once. But in his seven starts, the Diamondbacks have scored 54 runs, and the relievers have shut down the opposition when Stottlemyre leaves.

"My start really isn't a credit to how I'm pitching," Stottlemyre said. "It's a credit to how this team is playing the day I pitch."

Stottlemyre (6-1) struck out seven, his most in two seasons with Arizona, to join teammate Randy Johnson (7-0) and Darryl Kile of St. Louis (6-1) as the NL's only six-game winners. Stottlemyre walked two and hit a batter.

"Every time Todd pitches, you're aware of the history and background there," manager Buck Showalter said, "but I thought both of his last two outings were about as good as he's been this year."

Eric Owens, who had reached base safely in all 27 of his games until Saturday, was 2-for-4 for the Padres.

The game was tied at 1 until starter Matt Clement (4-1) fell apart in the fifth. He walked two of the first three batters and, with Gonzalez's single, the bases were loaded with no outs when Finley singled to right to drive in two. Travis Lee hit into a fielder's choice to drive in another run, then Miller doubled in the fourth run of the inning.

Stottlemyre's infield single, the fourth hit by an Arizona pitcher in the series, put runners on first and third. Womack doubled in a run and Gonzalez's two-run double with two outs made it 8-1.

"Getting swept is hard to take," San Diego manager Bruce Bochy said. "We got totally outplayed in this series. We got outpitched. We got outhit. It was a horrible series for us."

Clement, who failed in his bid to become the first Padres' pitcher to start 5-0 since Andy Hawkins in 1985, allowed eight runs and nine hits in 4 2/3 innings. He walked five and struck out one.

"They're a good hitting team, especially when they're hot," Clement said. "There's not one part of that lineup you can give in to. They did what a good team does. They strung some hits together, took advantage of some walks and beat me."

San Diego's only run came on Ryan Klesko's RBI single with two outs in the third.

The Diamondbacks' Erubiel Durazo extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a leadoff single in the sixth. ... Arizona outscored San Diego in the series 23-9. ... The Diamondbacks are 21-10 but have lost three of five against San Francisco, the only team they've played that has a winning record.
