MONTREAL (AP) -- Jose Vidro was surprised to learn that the Houston Astros are having trouble winning close games. Vidro singled home the winning run with one out in the 10th inning to lead the Montreal Expos to a 3-2 victory Friday night. Houston, 0-10 in one-run games this season, is the only team in the majors without a one-run win. "I'm surprised about that because they have a really good team," Vidro said. "They have a good-hitting team and it must be tough for them, having a record like that." Astros first baseman Jeff Bagwell said their inability to win close games comes down to two factors. "I think you've got to know how to win those games, and you've got to be lucky, too," Bagwell said. "And we've had no luck at all this year." Montreal had lost its previous seven home games that went extra innings since beating Los Angeles 5-4 in 10 innings on Aug. 4, 1998. "I think the guys are more experienced now," Vidro said. "They're not putting too much pressure on themselves and I think we're going to be more successful this year." Pinch-hitter Wilton Guerrero singled off Joe Slusarski (0-1) leading off the 10th, Peter Bergeron sacrificed and up came Vidro, who earlier homered for the second straight game. He singled to center as Guerrero slid home well ahead of the throw. Montreal won in its last at-bat for the sixth time this season and has won five of seven overall. Rondell White's eighth-inning homer off Jose Cabrera gave Montreal a 2-1 lead, but Mitch Meluskey tied it in the ninth with a home run off Dustin Hermanson (5-3), who has blown two of four save chances since taking over the closer's role from Ugueth Urbina, who had a bone chip removed from his right elbow Wednesday. Vidro homered off Octavio Dotel in the first, but Meluskey's sacrifice fly tied it in the fourth. Montreal's Tony Armas, making his second start of the season, allowed one run, four hits and six walks in 6 2/3 innings. "He threw a great game for us," Expos manager Felipe Alou said. "We needed that long outing." Dotel allowed one run and three hits in seven innings, striking out eight. Game notesThird-base umpire Jerry Crawford missed the beginning of the game due to travel problems. He arrived midway through the third inning. ... Dotel has allowed nine home runs. ... The Astros will return to Milwaukee on Monday to play a doubleheader beginning 1:05 p.m. EDT, after the last two games of their three-game series were rained out. ... Houston has had four rainouts this season, including their season opener in Pittsburgh on Apr. 3 and a rare rainout in Los Angeles on Apr. 17. ... The Astros are playing their first game on artificial turf since their season-opening three-game set in Pittsburgh Apr. 4-6. ... The Expos signed free-agent LHP Jim Poole to a major league contract Friday. Poole was released by Detroit on Wednesday after going 1-0 with one save and a 7.27 ERA in 18 games this season. He is expected to join the team on Saturday. ... Expos C Chris Widger has a deep bone bruise on his left hand and will be rested for the first two games of the series. Lenny Webster made his fifth start of the season and went 1-for-4. ... Vidro's error was his first since last Sept. 24, breaking a streak of 44 consecutive errorless games. ...
