ATLANTA (AP) -- After extending his unbeaten streak to seven starts, Greg Maddux wanted none of the credit. "That was one where the bullpen gets the win," Maddux said Friday night after Mike Remlinger bailed him out of a shaky seventh inning in the Atlanta Braves' 6-4 win over the Boston Red Sox. "Rem was outstanding, like he has been all year," Maddux said. "Even Rudy (Seanez) in the ninth. He had it going, too." Andres Galarraga hit his 16th home run, a solo shot in the seventh, for the game's final run. Maddux (8-1), who hasn't lost since May 3 at Los Angeles, was coming off one of his worst outings -- he allowed 13 hits last weekend against the New York Yankees, the second-highest total of his career. He took a four-hitter and a 5-1 lead into the seventh, allowing his only run on Brian Daubach's RBI single in the fourth. But Daubach led off the seventh with a home run, and Trot Nixon chased Maddux with a two-run single. He walked Jason Varitek on four pitches and Jeff Frye on a 3-1 count. "You can't walk people like that," Maddux said. "I don't know what else to say. It didn't go where I aimed it." In its previous five starts, the Atlanta rotation went 0-3 with a 12.96 ERA, giving up 49 hits and 35 runs in 24 1-3 innings. Maddux allowed seven hits and three walks in 6 2-3 innings, striking out eight. Remlinger and Seanez completed the eight-hitter, with Seanez getting three outs for his second save. With runners on first and second, Remlinger retired Nomar Garciaparra one one pitch to end the seventh. Atlanta won for just the third time in eight games. Boston has lost seven of 10 overall and dropped to 2-5 at Turner Field. "I don't think any of us are using any excuses," Garciaparra said in reference to Boston's playing three games in three cities in the last three days. "It was a well-played ballgame on both sides." Jeff Fassero (6-2) allowed four runs, six hits and three walks in 3 1/3 innings -- his shortest outing in 12 starts this season. Fernando Lunar, called up from Double-A Greenville May 5 to be Maddux's personal catcher, singled in the third and scored on Chipper Jones' infield single, then had a two-run single in a three-run fourth that also included Rafael Furcal's RBI double. Lunar was just 2-for-20 coming in with one career RBI. "I told myself to relax and just try to hit the ball the opposite way," Lunar said. "I'm getting more confident every at-bat." Garciaparra doubled leading off the fourth and scored on Daubach's single. Maddux squeezed home a run in the sixth, and Galarraga crushed a Rich Garces pitch in the seventh. "It was a curveball, just hanging," Garces said. "It was right there, and he hit it out of the park. That's it until the next time." Game notesRed Sox manager Jimy Williams said after the game that the club learned during the game it could have reactivated 2B Jose Offerman before the game. "It's a mistake we made, but we'll move on. We can't look backwards," Williams said. "I do know that physically he could have come off today." Offerman had a 12-game hitting streak when he went on the 15-day disabled list May 27 with a strained left groin. Williams said the club apparently overlooked the move was retroactive to May 25. ... With Offerman returning Saturday, the Red Sox announced that RHP Dan Smith will return to Triple-A Pawtucket. Smith gave up three runs, three walks and two hits in 3 1-3 innings. ... John Rocker, demoted to Triple-A Richmond on Monday, struck out three and issued one walk in the ninth inning of a 10-5 win at Toledo on Friday night.
