PHOENIX (AP) -- Todd Stottlemyre returned for Arizona and things
started to click for the slumping Diamondbacks.
Steve Finley hit a tiebreaking two-run homer in the seventh
inning as the Diamondbacks snapped their five-game home losing
streak with a 10-5 victory over the Florida Marlins on Sunday.

"This was a pretty emotional day for all of us," said Luis
Gonzalez, who had three hits and scored on Finley's homer. "We've
scuffled a little bit at times. But we had 'Stott' making his
comeback, late in the game throwing 93 to 95 mph, and that shows
what a competitor he is."
Stottlemyre gave up eight hits and five runs in 4 2/3 innings in
his return to the Diamondbacks after nearly two months on the
disabled list. He also scored two runs and doubled in his only
at-bat.
"I felt like a kid again," said the 34-year-old right-hander,
who was 8-5 before developing elbow tendinitis in late June. "I
feel great. My flexibility was great after the game."
The score was tied 5-5 when Gonzalez led off the seventh with a
single off Florida starter A.J. Burnett. Burnett got Greg Colbrunn
to fly out but then was lifted to allow left-hander Armando Almanza
(4-3) to face Finley.
It didn't work, as Finley lined a pitch into the right-field
grandstand for his 34th homer, tying his career high set last
season.
"Armando deserves better than that," Florida manager John
Boles said. "Finley is one of five people in the world who could
hit that pitch out. The ball almost bounced, and he golfed it."
Finley agreed.
"He's got me out with a curveball a lot before," Finley said.
"It actually wasn't a bad pitch. I was just making sure I saw the
ball real well, and I was lucky enough to get the good part of the
bat on the ball."
The Diamondbacks then loaded the bases with two outs, and Tony
Womack had a two-run single and Jay Bell hit his second RBI single.
Byung-Hyun Kim (4-5) worked one inning for the win, despite
allowing one hit and hitting two batters to help Arizona stay five
games behind first-place San Francisco in the NL West.
Stottlemyre, Arizona's No. 2 starter behind Randy Johnson, had
been on the disabled list since June 26 with tendinitis in his
right elbow. The same ailment kept him on the DL from May 30 to
June 14, and Stottlemyre is planning to have surgery to relocate a
nerve during the off-season.
This is the second consecutive year that Stottlemyre has
rejoined the Diamondbacks late in the season. Last year, he
partially tore his rotator cuff but decided against surgery because
he wanted to stay in the rotation.
Stottlemyre came out after Derrek Lee tied the game at 5 with an
RBI single. Preston Wilson also had an RBI single in the inning,
giving him hits in six consecutive at-bats.
Florida opened a 3-0 lead by scoring once in each of the first
three innings -- on Mike Lowell's RBI single and groundouts by Luis
Castillo and Lowell. But the Diamondbacks cut the deficit to 3-2 in
their third and went ahead with three runs in the fourth.
Stottlemyre started the rally with a one-out double into the gap
in left-center, advanced on a single by Womack and scored on Bell's
sacrifice fly. Gonzalez added an RBI single.
Finley doubled and scored on Danny Bautista's triple in the
fourth. Kelly Stinnett and Bell added RBI singles.
"I had a groove in the first, and then I got out of it,"
Burnett said. "I was rushing pitches and getting frustrated. When
you get frustrated, you get hit."
Game notes
Colbrunn has six consecutive multihit games. ... The
Diamondbacks' five losses at home tied a record set three times in
1998. ... Burnett worked into the seventh inning for the eighth
time in 16 career starts, but gave up a career-high 12 hits. ...
Lowell extended his career-high hitting streak to 14 games.
