CLEVELAND (AP) _ Kenny Lofton hit a tiebreaking two-run single during four-run sixth inning as the Cleveland Indians rallied from a four-run deficit Tuesday night to beat the Tampa Bay Devil Rays 7-4.

Cleveland, which leads the AL wild-card race, improved to 21-10 since Aug. 2 and moved a season-high 13 games over .500 at 74-61.

Jason Bere (11-9) overcame early inconsistency to improve to 5-2 since the Indians acquired him from Milwaukee on July 28. He allowed four runs and four hits in six innings, struck out seven and walked four.

Steve Karsay pitched two scoreless innings and Bob Wickman worked the ninth for his 10th save in 12 chances with the Indians, his 26th of the season.

Lofton's two-run, single off reliever Tony Fiore (1-1) gave Cleveland a 6-4 lead. Sandy Alomar scored from third later in the inning on Fiore's wild pitch.

Tampa Bay, which found out before the game that Gerald Williams and four others were being suspended for last week's brawls against Boston, went ahead in the first on Greg Vaughn's three-run homer. Vinny Castilla hit an RBI double in the third.

Roberto Alomar began Cleveland's comeback with a fourth-inning single off Paul Wilson, the Indians' first hit. David Segui's RBI single later in the inning made it 4-2.

Cleveland got another run in the fifth on a two-base throwing error by shortstop Felix Martinez, and Jim Thome homered in the sixth, his 33rd of the season.

Notes: Manny Ramirez has hit in a career-high 20 consecutive games, the fifth-longest streak in the AL this year. ... Castilla got hits in his first two at-bats in more than a month. He had been sidelined since July 30 with an inflamed back. ... Indians C Sandy Alomar got his first stolen base since June 23, 1996. ... Thome drew his 100th walk in the fourth inning _ the fourth time he has walked 100 times or more times in a season.
