MILWAUKEE (AP) _ Jeff D'Amico dominated the Chicago Cubs once again, taking a shutout into the ninth inning Monday night as the Milwaukee Brewers began their final homestand at County Stadium with a 2-1 victory.

D'Amico (12-5) won for the third time in three starts this season against the Cubs. He pitched 23 consecutive scoreless innings against the Cubs this season before allowing a run in the ninth.

D'Amico, who has won 10 of his last 11 decisions, walked three and struck out seven. He didn't allow a runner to reach second base until walking two straight batters with one out in the ninth.

Curtis Leskanic relieved and allowed Mark Grace's RBI single with two outs before getting his 11th save.

Sammy Sosa, who leads the majors with 50 home runs, was lifted for a pinch-hitter in the fourth inning for the Cubs with lower back tightness. He is day to day.

Chicago has lost sixth straight games and 16 of 18.

The Brewers, who moved into County Stadium in 1970 when the Seattle Pilots franchise relocated, are scheduled to move next season into Miller Park.

Todd Van Poppel (3-5), making his first start this season after 49 relief appearances, allowed one run and four hits in 5 2-3 innings, striking out eight.

The Brewers took a 1-0 lead in the third inning when Marquis Grissom singled with two outs and Mark Loretta followed with an RBI double into the left-field corner.

Milwaukee added an unearned run in an odd seventh. Ron Belliard led off with a single. Raul Casanova followed with a long fly to right-center. Right-fielder Damon Buford was charged with an error on the misplayed fly ball, which bounced into the seats. But Casanova was called out for passing Belliard, who hesitated between first and second, before being awarded third base.

D'Amico hit a sacrifice fly to score the run.

Notes: Brewers right-fielder Jeromy Burnitz threw out Eric Young at second base trying to stretch a single for Burnitz's 12th assist. ... Loretta extended his hitting streak to nine games with his third-inning double. ... Loretta reached all four times with two doubles and two walks. ... Van Poppel became the 12th starting pitcher used by the Cubs. The team record is 15, the last time in 1990.
