GAME LOG
CHICAGO (AP) _ Ruben Quevedo ended his four-game losing streak as Mark Grace had a tie-breaking RBI double Monday night to lead the Chicago Cubs to a 4-3 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies. Grace recorded his 1,001st career RBI for the Cubs, who took the opener of the four-game series between the teams with the worst records in the majors. The Cubs won for only the fifth time in their last 24 games, while the Phillies lost for the seventh time in the last eight games. Quevedo (3-9), who last won August 23 against Houston, gave up two runs and five hits in six innings. Tim Worrell pitched the ninth for his second save. Robert Person (9-6) failed in his bid to tie a career high in wins, allowing four runs and four hits in six innings. He walked six and struck out five. With the game tied at 2 in the fifth inning, Corey Patterson was hit by a pitch and scored on Grace's double. Damon Buford added an RBI single, one out later, to make it 4-2. The Phillies closed within 4-3 on Doug Glanville's RBI single in the seventh. Philadelphia took a 1-0 lead with two outs in the first on Pat Burrell's RBI single. The Cubs tied the game in the bottom of the first as Patterson doubled, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on Roosevelt Brown's groundout. Glanville singled to lead off the third and scored on Bobby Abreu's double to give Philadelphia a 2-1 lead before Augie Ojeda's sacrifice fly tied the game in the fourth. Notes: In 14 starts with the Cubs, Quevedo is 3-7 with a 6.35 ERA. He also has made six relief appearances. ... Grace posted his 1,000th career RBI on Saturday. He is the seventh Cubs player to reach that milestone. ... RF Sammy Sosa missed his sixth straight game because of a muscle strain in his lower back. ... Sixteen of the Phillies last 27 games have been decided by one run. The Phillies have won 12 of their last 19 games at Wrigley Field, dating back to 1996. ... The Cubs relievers had a portable heater in the bullpen to try to counter the chilly 55 degree weather.
