| MONTREAL -- The Montreal Expos won't be totally silent on
local air waves.
Shortly before the Expos' opener Monday against Los Angeles,
they reached a deal with Telemedia Radio Inc. for French-language
radio broadcasts of 158 of the team's 162 games this season.
The Expos remained without English-language radio and have no
local or national television contracts.
Expos owner Jeffrey Loria has been adamant that local stations
pay comparable rights fees to those paid to clubs in U.S. cities.
Local broadcasters have argued that the Expos' ratings in recent
years don't justify the price and suggested the team first rebuild
its fan base. | |
