Ochoa's slam record 142nd of season

Associated Press

CINCINNATI -- Alex Ochoa hit the 142nd grand slam of the season Tuesday night, setting a major league record.

The previous record of 141 slams was set in 1996.

The Cincinnati Reds outfielder hit his first career slam in the first inning against Philadelphia's Bruce Chen, the Reds' second slam in two nights. Dmitri Young hit an upper-deck grand slam in a 7-4 victory Monday night.

The Reds, who lost 5-4, hadn't hit grand slams in consecutive games since May 4-5, 1996, when Eric Davis had a pair. They have five overall this season.

The record was tied earlier Tuesday in San Diego when the Padres' Damian Jackson hit No. 141.

Jackson connected in the second inning off Pat Mahomes for his first career slam, San Diego's fourth of the season, in a 16-1 rout of the New York Mets.
