PHOENIX -- Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Erubiel Durazo suffered minor injuries during a three-car crash in central Phoenix on Sunday afternoon that seriously injured another driver. Durazo, 26, was driving a Nissan Xterra sport utility vehicle southbound on 7th Street at Buckeye Road when he became involved in the crash with a Toyota Corolla and a Cadillac Cimarron.
Phoenix police were investigating to determine the cause of the crash. During the crash, the Xterra rolled onto the passenger side. Durazo and his mother, Maria Durazo, were taken to Good Samaritan Hospital. Phoenix Fire Department Capt. Doug Mummert said Durazo had minor injuries and did not appear to aggravate the wrist injury that has kept him out of the Diamondbacks lineup recently. Durazo was wearing a cast on the wrist. Maria Durazo had cuts and bruises on her hands, but they did not appear serious, Mummert said. A third passenger in the Xterra was not injured, he said. The driver of the Toyota, 22-year-old Margarita Estrada, was taken to Good Samaritan where she was listed in serious condition. The driver of the Cadillac was not hurt. |
