ATLANTA -- Atlanta Braves first baseman Andres Galarraga began serving a three-game suspension Thursday night for charging the mound and fighting with Colorado's John Wasdin. Galarraga initially appealed his suspension and fine, saying his actions Aug. 22 were justified because the Wasdin challenged him to fight as the Braves star walked slowly to first. Colorado manager Buddy Bell and Wasdin were each suspended for two games each and fined by Frank Robinson, baseball's vice president of discipline. Baseball officials planned to fly to Atlanta on Thursday to consider Galarraga's argument. "There was no sense doing that," Braves manager Bobby Cox said. "They were not going to change it." So, Galarraga began serving his suspension in the final game of a series against Arizona. He also will miss games Friday and Saturday against Montreal. |
