TAMPA, Fla. -- New York Yankees left-hander Andy Pettitte will test his strained throwing elbow in the bullpen Wednesday and is scheduled to pitch in a minor league game on Friday. Pettitte was scratched from his start last Friday after experiencing minor tightness while warming up. He reported no problems after playing catch Monday. Reliever Ramiro Mendoza , who has been out the past 10 days with neck stiffness, threw from 100 feet. "It's coming along," Mendoza said. "Felt looser." There is no timetable for when Mendoza will pitch again. "Obviously we want him out there a few times," Yankees manager Joe Torre said. "We might go down to the last day and say we want him to stay down here (in Florida) and throw a few games." Center fielder Bernie Williams took part in all pregame drills and expects to return Wednesday from a minor right calf strain. "It's feeling better," Williams said. Outfielder Rondell White did some light jogging, but will not resume throwing until Wednesday. He has missed 13 days with a left rib cage strain. "He's the biggest concern because he hasn't had an at-bat," Torre said. "If he's not ready for opening day, that's fine. It will depend on how feels when he bats."
