ATLANTA (AP) -- For the first time in more than two months, the Washington Wizards could hold their heads high on the road. "It's a big relief, but it's only one game," Jahidi White said after helping the Washington Wizards broke a 15-game road losing streak with a 102-83 victory over the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday night. "We have more games to go. We have another game tomorrow. We just have to keep it up."
With 13 points, White was one of six Wizards in double figures. Mitch Richmond led the way with 18 points, and Gerard King added 17. Rod Strickland finished with 11 assists and 10 points, and Tracy Murray came off the bench to contribute 13 points for Washington, which had not won on the road since Dec. 21 at Houston. "Right now we're just trying to get a win," Strickland said. "We're trying to turn this thing around. I thought the flow we had was pretty good. We hope it'll carry over." The Hawks, who just ended a 2-4 road trip with losses to the Los Angeles Clippers and Golden State Warriors, were led by Jim Jackson's 22 points and a 16-point, 17-rebound effort from Dikembe Mutombo. Atlanta had only 33 points in the second half as leading scorer Isaiah Rider had only five points to match a personal season-low. Rider, who shot 2-for-7, also committed a game-high five turnovers. "We played like a tired team today -- a team that just got off a long road trip," Jackson said. "You have to kind of block that out mentally and still come out and give an effort. Your body doesn't say you can, but you to mentally try to will yourself." Washington's biggest lead was 19 points late in the fourth quarter. The Wizards, who won for only the second time in their last 11 games, never trailed after King's 14-foot jumper gave them a 7-6 lead midway through the first quarter. Now 6-24 away from home, the Wizards kept their lead in double figures after Chris Whitney hit a 3-pointer for an 81-69 lead with 8:07 remaining. "You always want to win, no matter if you haven't won in a long time, or you just won yesterday," White said. "You always want to get a win."
