ATLANTA (AP) _ Gary Payton scored 28 points as the Seattle SuperSonics beat the Atlanta Hawks 93-81 Saturday night. Vin Baker added 16 for the Sonics, who had lost three of their last four. Alan Henderson, Jim Jackson and Bimbo Coles each scored 11 to lead Atlanta, which has lost three of four and six of its last nine. Atlanta's Dikembe Mutombo, who had more fouls (five) than points (three), matched his season low in scoring. Isaiah Rider took only three shots and finished with two points. Seattle took control with 1:01 left in the second quarter. With the Sonics leading 39-35, Seattle went on a 10-3 run. Payton hit a 12-foot jump shot, Rashard Lewis made a 3-pointer and Baker converted a pair of free throws. Then, Payton threw a long pass to Brent Barry, whose 3-pointer from the left corner gave Seattle a 49-38 lead at the buzzer. The Hawks, coming off an 83-70 victory over the New York Knicks on Friday night, jumped out to their biggest lead at 21-14 when Jackson hit a 3-pointer with 40 seconds remaining in the first quarter. Rider, who leads Atlanta with 21.2 points per game, reported late for the second consecutive game. Chris Crawford again started in Rider's place and was 1-for-6 for two points. Notes: Making four of six free throws, Payton needs 11 to pass Lenny Wilkens, a former Seattle star player and coach, for fourth place in franchise history. ... Barry missed his first seven shots, including a breakaway dunk attempt, but hit his next four to finish with 10 points. ... Atlanta dropped to 4-25 when trailing after three quarters.
