PHOENIX (AP) _ Anthony Peeler scored 18 points, including the decisive 3-pointer with 42.6 seconds remaining, as the Minnesota Timberwolves rallied to beat the Phoenix Suns 87-85 in both teams' exhibition opener. Kevin Garnett scored a game-high 21 points and added 14 rebounds for the Timberwolves, who trailed until rookie Wally Szczerbiak's layup with 6:13 left in the third quarter gave them a 59-57 lead. Shawn Marion, the ninth player taken in the June draft, had 16 points and eight rebounds for the Suns and Penny Hardaway added 16 points on 6-of-12 shooting in his Phoenix debut. Garnett scored 15 of his points in the first half, including a fallaway 3-pointer at the halftime buzzer that pulled the Timberwolves within 49-47. Toby Bailey's dunk with 8:38 remaining capped an 8-2 run to start the fourth quarter as the Suns opened a 75-70 lead. Minnesota answered as Peeler scored five straight points, including a 3-pointer with 2:44 to go, to give the Timberwolves an 82-81 lead. Tom Gugliotta made one of two free throws with 1:02 remaining to tie the game 84-84, but Peeler hit his 3-pointer from the top left side of the key to put Minnesota ahead for good 87-84. Jason Kidd's 3-point attempt from the baseline at the buzzer missed long to preserve the Timberwolves' victory.
