Bucks' early lead enough for win

RECAP | BOX SCORE | GAME FLOW

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) -- This time, the Milwaukee Bucks finished what they started.

Ray Allen scored 29 points and Glenn Robinson had 25 as Milwaukee built an early lead Wednesday night and was never threatened in a 116-99 victory over the Orlando Magic.

The Bucks scored 14 straight after falling behind 2-0 and held a double-digit lead the rest of the game to bounce back from a two-point loss to Denver in which they squandered a 16-point, second-half lead.

"I don't think teams get worried when we have them down 14 or 15 points because they feel we'll let them back in," Robinson said. "We just wanted to keep playing tonight and finish the game."

Allen was 8-for-15 from the field and made all 10 of his free throws. Robinson scored 17 of his points in the first half and finished 10-for-17 as the Bucks shot 51 percent.

Scott Williams had 17 points and 15 rebounds for Milwaukee. Ervin Johnson grabbed 10 rebounds for the Bucks, who led 68-52 at the half and 97-79 after three quarters.

Reserve Chucky Atkins led Orlando with 15 points, all in the opening half, as the Magic only got 36 points from their starters. Chris Gatling came off the bench to score 14, and Corey Maggette added 12.

"Ugly. In one word, that's what that was. I thought we got outworked," Magic coach Doc Rivers said. "For a change, I think Milwaukee came out with an edge, a chip on their shoulder and feeling they had something to prove. That's usually us."

In addition to its 14-point surge early, Milwaukee had a 13-0 run late in the first quarter to take a 40-17 lead. The Bucks let down at home against Denver on Saturday night, but the closest the Magic got after the first period was 11.

A 10-0 spurt trimmed Orlando's deficit to 79-68, and the Magic trailed by 12 before Allen hit a jumper and two free throws in a 10-2 burst that put the Bucks up by 20 again.

"We've had lapses in the third and fourth quarter all season," Allen said. "But we kept pounding on them, and they really didn't have an answer for us."

The Magic failed to score 100 points after topping the century mark in six consecutive games. The main reason was a lack of production from the starting five.

Although Tariq Abdul-Wahad had 14 second-half points to finish with 15, Darrell Armstrong was held to seven on 3-for-11 shooting, Monty Williams scored eight and Michael Doleac six. Ben Wallace did not score.

It also was a frustrating night for Armstrong at the foul line, where he had made 47 in a row before missing his first attempt and winding up 1-for-3. The team record is 50 straight by Reggie Theus.
