ATLANTA (AP) -- After watching the Milwaukee Bucks lose to the
Atlanta Hawks, Milwaukee coach George Karl criticized his team, the
Hawks and the officials.
| | Atlanta's Dikembe Mutombo grabbed 17 rebounds against the Bucks on Saturday. | He didn't have anything bad to say about Jason Terry.
Terry scored a career-high 30 points, including seven during a
late 14-2 run, as Atlanta won 101-94, snapping Milwaukee's
three-game winning streak.
"I don't think my basketball team respected the Hawks. That was
embarrassing," Karl said. "We were down 12 points in three
minutes. That's more than (the Hawks) have gotten in two weeks.
"This is a game we could have won on defense, but no, it was
just let the game happen. They're pros? They're babies. We pay
these guys millions. That's incredible."
Terry scored 18 points in the first half to help the Hawks
improve to 4-13 with their second victory in three games. They
outscored the Bucks 25-11 to start the game and led by nine after
the first quarter.
"I thought we opened the game with really good energy,
aggressive offensively, making the extra pass and showing good
awareness defensively," Hawks coach Lon Kruger said. "Jason was
really poised, really aggressive, and he made shots early. That
really got him going."
Milwaukee took an 86-81 lead midway through the fourth quarter
by holding Atlanta scoreless for nearly five minutes. But Terry
scored eight points in the final 4:39, leading the Hawks on a 20-8
run to end the game.
"Yesterday in practice, (Kruger) defined everyone's role and
told everyone what they needed to do to be successful," Terry
said. "One of the things he said to me was to increase my scoring
opportunities. I have to do that and use my quickness and push the
ball in transition."
The Hawks won despite shooting just 41 percent from the field.
They outrebounded the Bucks 47-42 and outscored them 18-12 from the
free-throw line.
"With these young referees, we never got a call," Karl said.
Ray Allen scored 19 points for the Bucks.
"It's the same thing every time," Allen said. "We came out
and took quick shots and didn't pass the ball."
Atlanta's Dikembe Mutombo had eight points, 17 rebounds and
blocked three shots. Matt Maloney added a season-high 18 points,
and rookie DerMarr Johnson scored 14 despite missing his last eight
shots.
Tim Thomas had 17 points for Milwaukee. Glenn Robinson made just
7 of 18 shots, scoring 14 points before fouling out with 1:14 left
in the game.
The Hawks blew a 16-point lead in the first quarter, falling
behind by four at the half. They shot 52 percent in the first, and
Terry and Maloney combined for 20 of the points.
Atlanta's performance was quite a turnaround from Thursday
night, when they trailed the Chicago Bulls, the worst team in the
league, for the final three quarters in a 91-82 defeat.
Game notes Robinson picked up a technical foul early in the second
quarter for shoving Mutombo, and less than a minute later, Mutombo
and Scott Williams were called for double fouls. Mutombo also got a
technical for protesting the call. ... Before the game, the Bucks
activated forward Scott Williams and placed guard Michael Redd on
the injured list. ... The Hawks were 3-for-14 from 3-point range.
... Milwaukee had won five straight over Atlanta.
