SEATTLE (AP) -- Antawn Jamison couldn't do it by himself.

The third-year forward scored an NBA season-high 51 points and
grabbed 14 rebounds, but the Seattle SuperSonics still beat the
Golden State Warriors 118-102 Sunday night.
Gary Payton had a season-high 38 points and 12 assists and the
Sonics shot a season-high 57 percent in beating the Warriors.
Sonics coach Nate McMillan has emphasized defense since taking
over from Paul Westphal four games ago and every Sonic tried
slowing down Jamison, all to no avail.
"It seemed like there was two of him out there," Sonics
forward Jelani McCoy said. "He hit some easy shots, but other
times it would not have mattered how many people we had on him."
Jamison surpassed his previous career-high of 37 in the third
quarter. He scored the fourth-highest total by a Sonics opponent,
equaling the 51 points scored by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar on Feb. 19,
1971, when he was with the Milwaukee Bucks. Jamison's output tied
him for first on the Warriors' all-time list with Rick Barry, who
scored that total three times and Phil Smith who scored 51 twice.
Jamison was 23-for-36 from the field and had 14 rebounds. Six
other Warriors combined for 51 points on 19-of-55 shooting.
"It was one of those nights I was feeling it," Jamison said.
"I was looking both inside and outside."
The Sonics beat the Warriors for the 10th straight time on their
home court and improved to 3-1 under McMillan. The Warriors are 1-9
on the road.
"He played out of his mind," McMillan said of Jamison. "But
he was only one guy scoring."
Ruben Patterson came off the bench and had 24 points and eight
rebounds for the Sonics in 29 minutes.
Seattle won the battle of the backcourts as Payton and Emanual
Davis combined for 48 points on 18-for-33 shooting. Larry Hughes
and Bob Sura of the Warriors managed just 15 points on 7-for-25
shooting. Seattle's reserves outscored the Warriors' backups 35-7.
The Warriors cut the deficit to 87-79 on a bank shot by Jamison
with 4:06 left in the third quarter. They had three chances to get
closer but Sura and Hughes missed 3-point attempts and Erick
Dampier turned the ball over. The Sonics countered with baskets by
Payton and Patterson for a 91-79 lead.
Payton scored nine points during a 12-0 run as they stretched
their lead to 81-61 with 8:33 left in the third quarter.
Payton had 19 points and eight assists and Patterson added 12
points as the Sonics shot 60 percent and led 67-56 at halftime.
Jamison had 31 points on 14-of-23 shooting and 11 rebounds in
the first two periods.
Game notes
Sonics forward Vin Baker missed his second straight game
with a sore right knee. ... Golden State's Chris Mills sat out with
a sore right ankle. ... Chris Porter, a rookie from Auburn, made
his first start for the Warriors and had 18 points.
