GAME FLOW
ATLANTA (AP) -- With Eddie Jones in foul trouble and Miami's
other starters struggling, coach Pat Riley turned to the Heat bench
Tuesday night.
A.C. Green responded with a season-high 14 points and Anthony
Carter added 11 points and a game-high eight assists as the Heat
beat the Atlanta Hawks 100-92.
"I thought the starters were absolutely flat to start the
game," said Riley, whose team won its third straight on the road.
"Both A.C.'s came in and changed the game for us."
Larry Robinson's 3-pointer cut the Miami's lead to 90-82 with
1:42 remaining, but Green's dunk 15 seconds later put the Heat
ahead by 10.
Green, who extended his NBA record of consecutive games played
to 1,128, raised his career scoring total to 11,998 points.
Jones, who picked up his third foul with 3:39 to go in the first
quarter and did not return until the third period, scored 16 of his
team-high 18 points in the second half.
He was one of seven Miami players in double figures.
"It takes more than just one guy," Jones said. "We have to do
it collectively. The more we do that, the more success we're going
to have."
Jones buried a 3-pointer with 6:09 remaining to give Miami its
biggest fourth-quarter lead at 84-70. He hit a pair of free throws
to make it 98-92 with 15.3 seconds left.
Jason Terry, coming off a career-high 30 points in a win over
Milwaukee Saturday, scored 17 of his game-high 23 points in the
third quarter. His 10-foot jumper cut Miami's lead to five with
1:09 to go in the period.
"They played a great half-court defense," Terry said. "When
teams take away our transition game, we're in trouble. We're not
working on the half court right now."
Rookie DerMarr Johnson scored 16 points for the Hawks, who had
won two of their last three.
"I'm not used to losing," Johnson said. "We are losing a lot
of games we should be winning. I was trying to make things happen
but I had six turnovers. That's way too many."
Dikembe Mutombo, who had 11 points and a team-high nine
rebounds, fouled out with 3:50 remaining.
Anthony Mason pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds and Brian
Grant added 16 points for Miami.
Terry's lay-in late in the first quarter gave the Hawks their
biggest lead at 15-8. Miami went on a 39-15 run and took a 15-point
lead on Bruce Bowen's 3-pointer with 2.6 seconds left in the second
quarter.
Game notes The Hawks' 32-point first half was their lowest output
before intermission since they lost 91-88 at Boston last Dec. 22.
... Matt Maloney went 1-for-7 for Atlanta. ... Carter, an Atlanta
native and a graduate of Crim High School, had about 30 friends and
family members in attendance.
