SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) -- Chris Webber sat out the final nine
minutes Tuesday night, which is typically a good sign for the
Sacramento Kings.
| | Chris Webber was laying down on the job, but he managed to post 28 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Kings on Tuesday. |
The Kings' All-Star forward did his damage earlier in the game,
getting 28 points, 12 rebounds and four steals as Sacramento routed
the Golden State Warriors 105-79.
It was a game where the Kings didn't need Webber in the fourth
quarter. This one had already been decided. He left with Sacramento
holding an 89-61 lead.
"Sitting was definitely nice, but the selfish part of me wants
to be in there," said Webber, who played 33 minutes. "Anytime the
guys on the bench can get some playing time it's good. They work
real hard in practice. A game like this is good for morale."
Morale is good right now for the Kings, who won their third
straight game and own the best record in the Western Conference at
30-12. The Kings are an NBA-best 19-4 at home and have beaten the
Warriors three straight games this season.
Golden State, which has lost 14 of 15 games at Arco Arena, has
dropped three straight and 10 of 13. The Warriors didn't help
themselves, shooting 32-of-101 from the field and making 13 of 24
free throws.
"We've got to make shots," Warriors forward Larry Hughes said.
"The Kings are going to run, but they won't get out as fast if we
make some shots."
Webber had the first six points of the fourth quarter as
Sacramento scored 15 straight points, taking a 96-61 lead with 8:22
remaining.
Webber, who scored 10 third-quarter points, blocked Adam Keefe's
shot and dribbled the length of the court for an emphatic dunk in
the final seconds, putting the Kings ahead 81-61.
"We played with energy early, we got the lead and for the most
part were able to maintain it," Kings coach Rick Adelman said.
Peja Stojakovic scored 16 points and Jason Williams had 15
points and nine assists for the Kings. Reserve Scot Pollard had 11
points and 12 rebounds.
Antawn Jamison scored 14 of his 18 points in the first half for
Golden State and Hughes had 17 points.
"If they're not the best then they are one of the best,"
Jamison said. "They definitely have been one of our toughest
opponents so far."
Leading by 16 points, the Kings ran off 10 straight points in
the third quarter. Stojakovic made a 3-pointer to finish the run,
putting Sacramento ahead 73-47 at the 7:13 mark.
Webber had it going in the first half, scoring 16 points as the
Kings took a 57-39 lead. Williams had 10 points and Stojakovic
scored nine for Sacramento, which outscored the Warriors 22-10 in
the second period.
Jamison scored 14 first-half points for the Warriors, who made
just 3-of-24 shots in the second quarter.
"Chris (Mullin) is my best shooter and he went 0-for-6,"
Warriors coach Dave Cowens said. "We needed decent shots and we
needed to make them. Eventually, you have to make the nets move."
Game notes Golden State rookie center Marc Jackson had a strained left
groin and did not play. ... Williams had six assists and no
turnovers in the first quarter. ... Golden State's bench missed 12
of 13 shots in the opening half. ... The Kings had nine turnovers
through three quarters and finished with 12.
