GAME FLOW
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) -- Shareef Abdur-Rahim and the Vancouver
Grizzlies are building on modest success.
Abdur-Rahim had 28 points, on 12-for-17 shooting, and nine
rebounds as the Grizzlies beat the Golden State Warriors 92-79
Friday night and matched a franchise record with their third
straight win.
"We're playing hard and we're playing together," Abdur-Rahim
said. "We're taking advantage of opportunities and making plays.
When we were playing bad, we were caving in to adversity. Now,
we're showing some maturity and playing hard. We're trying to
finish the season as well as we can."
Mike Bibby scored 17 points for the Grizzlies, who also snapped
a 15-game road losing streak. Mike Dickerson added 13 points.
Vancouver has won four of its last six games, its best stretch
since opening the season with four victories in five games.
"This can set the tone for us the rest of the year as to where
we are and what we're capable of," Vancouver coach Sidney Lowe
said. "This is something we can build on."
Antawn Jamison scored 21 points for the Warriors, who lost their
third straight and second in as many nights against Vancouver.
"We have a talented enough team to win a lot of games, but
we're not doing it," said Jamison. "What's the reason? I'm tired
of figuring it out. To lose so many games, that's embarrassing. You
get tired of it. You get fed up. This is the low point of the
season."
Marc Jackson added 18 points and 13 rebounds, Sura had 15 points
and Larry Hughes 14 for the Warriors, who have lost eight of nine
and own the worst record in the Western Conference.
"We haven't gelled or been able to come around," Warriors
coach Dave Cowens said. "They just really shot well, and they have
a superstar in Shareef."
The Grizzlies recorded the third three-game winning streak in
the team's five-year history.
There were 10 lead changes in the first half before the
Grizzlies took control of the game at 8:36 of the second quarter.
"The main thing is, we're making plays at the end of the
game," Bibby said. "Things are going right for us. Hopefully, we
can keep it going."
Vancouver shot 57 percent in the first half and held a 50-46
lead at the break.
The Warriors scored eight of the last 11 points of the third
quarter, but finished the period with 6-for-21 shooting and failed
to cut into the Grizzlies' sizable lead.
Vancouver, which shot 10-for-19 in the third quarter, led 75-66
at the start of the fourth quarter.
Golden State never got any closer the rest of the way.
Vancouver rookie forward Stromile Swift left the game after
hurting his right knee on a slam dunk with 8:10 left in the second
quarter. He returned midway through the third quarter.
Game notes Cowens would like to see the Grizzlies move to St. Louis:
"It's a good city for basketball, and they could keep them in the
West." ... The Grizzlies recorded their first two-game winning
streak against Western Conference teams this season. They are 6-30
overall against the West, 2-9 on the road. ... Chris Mullin missed
the game with a lower back strain. ... The Warriors have failed to
score 100 points in eight straight games.
