GAME FLOW
CHICAGO (AP) Dave Cowens didn't care how, as long as his team
finally won a game.
| | The Warriors' Antawn Jamison soars over Marcus Fizer to score two of his 24 points. | So, he appreciated the effort of Antawn Jamison, who had 24
points and 12 rebounds as the Golden State Warriors broke an
eight-game losing streak by beating the Chicago Bulls 84-78 Monday
night.
"We needed a win awfully bad, especially with the 4 1/2-hour
flight back to the West Coast," Cowens said.
Adonal Foyle had 12 points and tied his career-high with eight
blocked shots, while Larry Hughes added 15 points for Golden State,
which has won only twice in its last 15 games.
A dunk by Elton Brand gave Chicago its largest lead 23-13, but
Golden State tied it 39-39 on Bob Sura's 3-pointer with 5:39 left
in the half. Following a turnover on Chicago's next possession,
Sura scored on a driving layup for the Warriors' first lead of the
night.
"We had two horrible stretches," Chicago coach Tim Floyd said.
"We had a series of about four turnovers in a five-minute period
that allowed them to get back in it."
Six points from Foyle keyed a 13-0 run to put Golden State up
65-55 with 2:32 left in the third.
Foyle maintained a strong presence in the middle on defense and
gave the Bulls second thoughts whenever they came inside.
"Any time you bring it in there, you'd better dunk it really
hard," Foyle said.
The Warriors outscored Chicago 24-11 in the
third quarter, with the Bulls shooting only 21 percent from the
floor in the period.
Chicago closed the gap to 69-67 on Marcus Fizer's layup with
9:24 left in the game, but Jamison hit four jumpers as Golden State extended its lead to 81-73. Mookie Blaylock missed five
of six free throws in the final minute, but Chicago could get no
closer than four points.
Brand scored 24 points for Chicago, which missed an opportunity
to win two consecutive games for only the second time this year.
Fred Hoiberg had 18 points and 10 rebounds for the Bulls.
Game notes Antawn Jamison's right elbow collided with Brad Miller's
forehead late in the first half. Miller needed 12 stitches and
Jamison left the court at halftime clutching his elbow in a towel.
Both players returned in the second half. ... The Bulls last won
two in a row Feb. 13 and 17 against Atlanta and Vancouver,
respectively. ... The Warriors are 1-5 on Mondays. ... Marc
Jackson, a leading candidate for rookie of the year, did not dress
for the fifth straight game because of a strained right groin.
