OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) -- Even without Chris Webber, the Sacramento
Kings haven't missed a beat. They just spread the responsibility
around.
Predrag Stojakovic scored 24 points and six other players
reached double figures as the Kings beat the Golden State Warriors
122-101 Wednesday night, setting a Sacramento record for road victories in a season.
"We are six of nine without Chris and what it has really done
is made everyone step their game up to a higher level," Kings
coach Rick Adelman said. "We have done a lot without Chris in the
lineup. I think it's really going to help us know the level; they
all have to play to go far in this league."
Lawrence Funderburke recorded his first double-double of the
year, tying his career high with 18 points and grabbing a
season-high 12 rebounds as the Kings won their second consecutive and
fifth in the last six. The victory was also their 15th on the road
this year, the most since moving from Kansas City and the most
overall since the 1982-83 season.
"We kind of let them get out and run on us," Stojakovic said.
"They came into the game with nothing to lose. Once we started
taking care of the boards and running our offense, we took
control."
Scot Pollard had his fourth consecutive double-double for the Kings
with 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Vlade Divac added 14 points
and Doug Christie had 13 to go with a season-high nine assists.
"I was moving around well tonight and that allowed me to get a
lot of other people involved," Christie said. "We have very good
shooters, so it's fun to find them."
Antawn Jamison had 36 points and 12 rebounds to lead the
Warriors, who have lost nine of 10. Bobby Sura added 15 points and
Larry Hughes had 14.
"We need to take a page from them," Jamison said. "For them
not to have their superstar out there, they seemed to play better
without him. You can understand why they're not only one of the
best teams in the Western Conference, but the NBA."
Sacramento swept the season series for the first time since the
1994-95 season, and have beaten the Warriors six in a row.
The victory also gave the Kings their fourth consecutive winning
month, the first time that's happened since 1978-79.
"Losing Chris was a blessing in disguise," Funderburke said.
"Now we know we have the people who can step up and won without
him."
Sacramento opened a 13-point lead entering the final quarter and
maintained a double-digit edge the rest of the way. The Kings led
by as many as 25.
"They have to do a lot more without (Webber) and they did
that," Hughes said. "We gave up too many easy things. They got a
lot of things in transition."
Warriors reserve guard Paul McPherson was fouled hard going up
for a shot with less than 18 seconds remaining and slammed his head
on the court. The game was delayed several minutes as trainers
attended to him. He walked off the court under his own power.
Jamison scored 15 points to help Golden State, which led by as
many as seven, open a 34-32 lead in the first quarter.
The Kings came roaring back in the second quarter, sparked by
Bobby Jackson, who scored 10 of his 16 points in eight minutes and
led a 21-6 run that helped Sacramento to a 64-55 halftime lead.
A large -- and vocal -- contingent of Sacramento fans made the 1½-hour trip to the Bay Area for the contest, helping pad the
attendance to 19,107, the second largest crowd of the season.
"It felt like we were in our own neighborhood," Stojakovic
said. "There were a lot of Kings fans here. It's nice to get
support like that here."
Game notes
The Warriors activated center Erick Dampier before the
game. Dampier appeared in his first game since Dec. 6 against the
Los Angeles Lakers. ... Golden State forward Chris Mullin was
placed on the injured list with a strained lower back and forward
Ruben Garces was waived. ... Webber did not make the trip with the
team and missed his ninth game as a result of a sprained left
ankle. ... The Warriors' 34 points matched a season-high at home
for the first quarter, tying the 34 they scored on Oct. 31 in their
season opener against Phoenix. ... The Kings were 11-for-13 from the
foul line in the first quarter while the Warriors' attempted their
first free throw with 42 seconds remaining in the second quarter.
... Christie has two or more steals in 19 of his last 20 games.
