Nuggets snap nine-game road slide

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) -- Nick Van Exel scored seven of his 17 points in the final 3:46 as the Denver Nuggets beat the Golden State Warriors 84-79 Monday night, snapping a nine-game road losing streak.

Raef LaFrentz had 16 points and a season-high 16 rebounds as Denver won in Oakland for the second time this season.

Antonio McDyess, who missed three games due to a knee injury, added 12 points and 17 rebounds. Robert Pack scored 15 points.

Mookie Blaylock scored 20 points for Golden State, which lost its seventh straight. Antawn Jamison and Chris Porter each added 15.

Kevin Willis tipped in a miss to give the Nuggets a 68-67 lead with 8:29 remaining, but the lead changed hands six times over the next six minutes.

Van Exel hit a 3-pointer with 2:30 left and Denver never trailed the rest of the way.

The Warriors used a 12-3 run at the start of the second half to take a 49-44 lead.

Golden State maintained that five-point lead through the period and led 66-61 at the end of the third. Blaylock scored 13 points in the quarter.

LaFrentz fueled Denver's early run with eight points and eight rebounds in the first nine minutes.

Denver built a nine-point lead in the second quarter before the Warriors used a 7-2 run to close within 41-37 at halftime.

Porter scored 14 of his points in the first half to keep Golden State in the game.

Denver forward George McCloud sprained his right ankle during practice Sunday and did not dress against Golden State. ... Golden State lost its first season series with the Nuggets since the 1992-93 season. ... McDyess has missed 19 games during his career, and the Nuggets are 5-14 in those games. ... Golden State's Marc Jackson missed his second straight game with a strained left groin. Larry Hughes missed his fourth straight with a strained left shoulder.
