LOS ANGELES (AP) Thanks to Jeff McInnis, suspended teammate
Lamar Odom was on the court in spirit if not in person.
Wearing a red sweatband on his left arm with Odom's No. 7
scribbled on it, McInnis had his first career triple-double with 21
points, 11 assists and a career-high 12 rebounds as the Los Angeles
Clippers beat the injury-riddled Golden State Warriors 94-76 Friday
night.
"We've been struggling without Lamar, and I was just showing my
support for him," McInnis said. "Coach told me not to try to do
too much. I'm happy about the triple-double. It's my first one
ever, and I never thought I'd get it because the rebounding seems
so hard."
Odom, who had his fourth career triple-double in a victory over
Golden State on Nov. 29, served the fourth game of his five-game
suspension for violating the NBA's anti-drug program.
McInnis, who has worn Odom's number on his arm for every game of
the suspension, entered the fourth quarter needing only two
rebounds for his triple-double. He didn't get them until the final
few minutes, after nearly injuring himself making a cut to position
himself for a pass.
"I just pulled something for a moment," said McInnis, who
spent almost 4 1/2 minutes on the bench. "Coach asked me if I wanted
to go back in. I told him it would be my first triple-double, and I
might not get another chance to get one again. It was a little
selfish."
McInnis shot 8-for-15 in 44 minutes to help send Golden State to
its season-worst ninth straight loss and 22nd in 24 games.
The Warriors, who have used 20 different starting lineups, again
were playing without four of their top five scorers because of
injuries. The only healthy players averaging at least 10 points for
them are Antawn Jamison, Mookie Blaylock and Bob Sura, who combined
for 36 points.
Jamison, who shot 0-for-9 in his previous visit to Staples
Center -- a loss to the Lakers on Mar. 4 -- missed his first five
shots and finished with 22 points and 11 rebounds.
"I thought we did a real good job on Jamison," Clippers coach
Alvin Gentry said. "He got 22 points on 26 shots, and any time
that happens, you're doing a real good job on a real great
player."
The victory ended a three-game losing streak for the Clippers,
who have beaten the Warriors in 11 of their last 16 meetings.
"We just didn't come out and match their intensity," Warriors
center Erick Dampier said. "It was hard for us to play catch-up
with a lot of our guys out."
Los Angeles used runs of 15-2 in the first quarter and 19-4 in
the second to build 51-27 lead with 4:55 left in the first half.
Golden State got no closer than 16 points with 1:10 remaining,
after Chris Porter's layup capped a 12-2 run.
"We just tried to jump on them early," said Corey Maggette,
who had 20 points. "We moved the ball well, we got some good
post-up feeds and ran the court well. We made some great passes and
were knocking down shots."
Game notes The Clippers are 1-9 when Odom doesn't play, including an
0-6 mark during his rookie season. ... Clippers rookie Quentin
Richardson also sat out because of a viral infection. ... In the
race to avoid the worst record in the Western Conference, the
Clippers lead Vancouver by three games and the last-place Warriors
by 6 1/2. ... Clippers No.1 pick Darius Miles leads all rookies with a
.493 field goal percentage _ which is misleading because he has
made 101 dunks and is 1-for-18 from 3-point range. Miles is
147-for-386 on the rest of his shots (.381). ... The Clippers
outshot the Warriors 48.6 percent to 32.7 percent. Golden State has
shot lower than 40 percent from the field in seven straight games,
and less than 50 percent in 37 straight.
