LOS ANGELES (AP) The fourth-quarter ejections of their two
leading scorers ended up not hurting the Los Angeles Clippers after
all.
The Clippers used two 3-point baskets in the final 34.6 seconds
of regulation to overcome a six-point deficit with 43.9 seconds
left in a 113-110 overtime victory over the Milwaukee Bucks on
Friday night.
"That's got to be the best win we had all year, even more so
than the double-overtime win against Portland because of what we
were playing with," coach Alvin Gentry said.
Lamar Odom had 18 points before being ejected with 4:11 to play
in regulation when he picked up his second technical foul.
Glenn Robinson scored 31 for Milwaukee, while Sam Cassell added
26 and Ray Allen 22.
Tim Thomas' basket with 1:34 left in overtime gave the Bucks a
110-107 lead, but they would not score again. Miles missed two free
throws with 1:23 to play, but was fouled by Cassell going for the
rebound and made both free throws.
Miles turned the ball the ball over with a bad pass on Los
Angeles' next possession, but Sean Rooks put the Clippers ahead to
stay on their ensuing possession by making two free throws with 36
seconds left.
"We had them on the ropes," said Robinson, who had 31 points
and 11 rebounds. "We got a lead and just couldn't find a way to
pull it out. We just have to learn how to close games out at the
end."
Eric Piatkowski added an insurance basket with 7.6 seconds
remaining and Robinson missed a 3-point shot as time expired.
Los Angeles forced overtime as Keyon Dooling and Piatkowski made
3-point baskets in the final 34.8 seconds after Robinson's 3-point
basket with 43.9 seconds left had given Milwaukee a 100-94 lead.
Dooling set up Piatkowski's basket with 20.8 seconds left by
stealing the ball from Cassell and calling timeout before Cassell
could tie him up.
Odom and Jeff McInnis were both ejected with 4:11 to play. Odom
was the first to be ejected when he received a technical foul for
arguing about his foul on Cassell. It was Odom's second technical
foul in a 13-second span. He received his first for arguing about a
jump ball call.
McInnis received two technical fouls for arguing about Odom.
Allen made two of the three free throws from the technical
fouls, putting the Bucks ahead 87-86, their first lead since the
first quarter. Cassell made both free throws off the original foul,
increasing Milwaukee's lead to 89-86.
Dooling's two free throws brought the Clippers back within one,
89-88, with 3:27 left. Milwaukee then scored six unanswered points
on two free throws each by Robinson and Thomas sandwiched around
Cassell's basket.
Game notes Los Angeles won for the 11 time in its last 13 games at
Staples Center. The Clippers' .846 home-winning percentage during
that span is the best in the NBA since Feb. 1. ... The Bucks will
conclude their longest road trip of the season, six games in nine
days, Sunday at Seattle. Milwaukee is 3-2 on the road trip. They
would win the division Sunday with a victory and a Toronto loss to
Chicago. ... Jason Caffey returned to the Bucks' lineup after not
dressing for Thursday's 108-78 victory at Golden State because of a
sore left knee. Caffey played eight minutes, all in the first half,
scoring two points.
