AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) – On the night he became the Detroit
Pistons' single-season scoring leader, Jerry Stackhouse wanted to
show he could do more than fill the basket.

Stackhouse had the first triple-double of his career on a
record-setting night, helping the Pistons beat the Atlanta Hawks
81-69 Monday.
"This was a fun game," Stackhouse said. "I knew I had a great
shot to break the record, but it was also nice to get the other
guys involved. Of course, I passed the ball so many times that I
almost ended with a quadruple double the bad way."
Stackhouse finished with 28 points, 12 rebounds and matched a
career high with 11 assists. He also finished with nine turnovers.
"He just played a great all-around game," said Atlanta's Matt
Maloney. "He distributed the ball, rebounded, scored and made good
decisions on the floor. That's why he is a great player."
Stackhouse became Detroit's single-season scoring leader,
passing Dave Bing's 30-year-old record of 2,213 points. Stackhouse
tied the record with a reverse layup late in the second quarter and
broke it with a 3-pointer early in the third. He finished the game
with 2,230 points for the season.
"It's a great honor, when you look at some of the Hall of
Famers that have played for the Pistons," he said. "Not just Dave
Bing, but guys like Isiah and Joe Dumars."
Detroit won despite the absence of coach George Irvine, who
missed the game with the flu. The Pistons got 13 points from
Corliss Williamson and seven points and 16 rebounds from Ben
Wallace.
The Hawks, losers of 12 straight on the road, were led by 17
points and 16 rebounds from Nazr Mohammed.
Detroit led 42-38 at the half behind 11 points and eight assists
from Stackhouse, then expanded the margin to as many as 11 in the
third quarter.
Stackhouse finished off the triple-double when he tipped in a
missed shot in the dying seconds of the third quarter. That put the
Pistons up 64-53.
Stackhouse put an exclamation point on his evening with a
reverse dunk off Chucky Atkins' lob to give Detroit a 74-61 lead
with 4:47 to play. The Hawks never threatened after that play.
Wallace had to be carried off the court with four minutes to
play after coming down on a rebound and sustaining back spasms. He
is being listed as questionable for Wednesday's game against
Toronto.
"It just gave out on me," he said. "It feels tough right now,
but they said there was a big knot in there and they were able to
get it out. I'll come back tomorrow for them to look at it."
Atlanta's Matt Maloney limped off moments later after banging
knees with Detroit's Dana Barros, but said he was fine after the
game.
Game notes
The Pistons placed Billy Owens (back spasms) on the
injured list before the game and activated rookie Brian Cardinal.
... The Hawks' starting lineup of Lorenzen Wright, Dion Glover,
Nazr Mohammed, Brevin Knight and Jason Terry was their 22nd
starting combination of the season. ... Stackhouse's triple-double
was Detroit's first since Grant Hill had one against Utah on March
21, 1999.
