GAME FLOW
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) A.C. Green had 19 points and 14 rebounds in
leading the Miami Heat to a 103-91 regular season-ending victory
over the Orlando Magic on Wednesday night.
Eddie Jones scored 22 points and Alonzo Mourning added 17 for
Miami, which will play Charlotte in the first round of the
playoffs. The Heat and Hornets split their four games this season.
Mike Miller's 20 points led the Magic, who face Milwaukee in the
opening round. The Bucks have beaten Orlando nine straight times.
The game was meaningless for postseason seeding. Starters sat
for long stretches, with Orlando's Tracy McGrady benched after a
10-point, five-rebound first quarter.
Also, seldom-used bench players saw quality court time. Of the
12 reserves available, 10 saw at least 16 minutes with only Miami's
Duane Causwell and Dan Majerle not playing.
The game was an opportunity for Orlando point guard Darrell
Armstrong to get back into form after sitting out six games with a
strained groin. Armstrong had two points and three assists in 23
minutes
After back-and-forth play for three quarters, Miami broke ahead
for good early in the final period behind its defense. The Heat had
three steals in the quarter's opening two minutes, and the
resulting fast breaks sparked a 9-0 run. Cedric Ceballos' breakaway
dunk capped the outburst and put Miami ahead 79-73 with 10:05
remaining.
Orlando closed within three points, 83-80, Miami was led down
the stretch by Green and Eddie House, who finished with 14 points.
The two each scored six points in the game's final 6:22.
Orlando drew 16,377 to finish with a season attendance of
605,031, nearly 29,000 above last year's franchise low.
Game notes Ceballos had 11 rebounds, four coming during a nine-second
span during the second quarter. ... Orlando center Michael Doleac
missed his fourth straight game with a sprained left ankle. ...
Referee Hugh Evans was officiating his last regular-season game
after 28 years.
