Named Third Team All-Big East Conference as a senior, also earning Second Team All-District II by the NABC. Finished with 1,175 points in three seasons at Syracuse (32nd on the career list) after spending his freshman season at Illinois. Transferred to Syracuse after the 1995-96 season. Also ranks 14th in career rebounds (776) and 18th in steals (135). Started all 100 games he played at Syracuse. At Nike Desert Classic, averaged 6.0 ppg and 4.0 rpg.

College highlights at Syracuse
As a senior, averaged 10.8 ppg and 7.2 rpg. Was named MVP of the NABC Tournament to start the season, where he averaged 20.5 ppg and 8.5 rpg over two games. He was also named MVP of the Carrier Classic, averaging 17.0 ppg and 11.5 rpg over two games. In the Big East opener over Rutgers, handed out a career-high nine assists, tied his career-high with five steals and added 12 points. Scored a team-high 18 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in a win over Connecticut, one of six double-doubles on the year. Scored a season-high 24 points vs. Notre Dame on March 1.

Led the Orange in rebounding as a junior, grabbing 7.8 rpg. Averaged 13.7 ppg over the last 14 games. Pulled down six or more rebounds in 24 of 33 games. Tallied a team-high 20 points in a win over fourth-ranked Connecticut. Scored a career-high 25 points and tied a career-high with 16 rebounds vs. Villanova. In three games vs. Villanova, he averaged 20.3 ppg and 12.0 rpg.

After sitting out a year after transferring from Illinois, Blackwell won a starting spot as a sophomore and averaged 12.6 ppg and 8.2 rpg. Was named MVP of the Carrier Classic. Was also selected to the Big East All-Tournament team on the strength of a 16-point, 16-rebound effort in a win over Villanova. Also hit the game-winner at the buzzer in a tourney win over St. John's.
