Pistons hope to have Hill back Thursday

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -- Grant Hill sat out the Detroit Pistons' game against the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday with a bruised hip and back.

And the Pistons suffered, falling 99-91 to Dallas.

Hill, who leads the Pistons in scoring (27.3) and assists (5.7), was injured in Saturday's 98-92 loss at Chicago when he fell hard while trying for a steal.

He is also expected to miss Tuesday's game at Cleveland, but the Pistons are hoping to have him in the lineup Thursday in Charlotte.

"It's a significant contusion -- the fact that he's not playing shows you how serious it is," said Pistons physician Dr. Ben Paolucci. "He's very questionable for Tuesday, but he might be ready for Thursday."

The only significant injury of Hill's career came during his rookie season of 1994-95, when he missed 12 games with plantar fascitis. In the four-plus seasons since, he had played in 330 of Detroit's 335 games before Sunday.

"It feels a little better today, but not good enough," Hill said before the game. "If it feels good Tuesday, I'll be out there."
