SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Sacramento Kings assistant coach Pete Carril was resting comfortably in a hospital Sunday, recovering from a minor heart attack that struck the former Princeton coach before practice a day earlier.

Carril, 69, told team officials he was not feeling well Saturday morning before the team practiced for Sunday's playoff game against the Los Angeles Lakers.

"Pete Carril was taken to Sutter Hospital with chest pains, which were subsequently diagnosed as the early stages of a minor heart attack," team physician Jeff Tanji said. "Several diagnostic tests were taken. He is in stable condition and is expected to return home early next week."

Carril, a member of the Basketball Hall of Fame, joined the Kings as an assistant coach before the 1996-97 season. He coached in college for 30 years, most notably at Princeton.
