Wednesday, May 30 Report: Spurs want Robinson to take pay cut ESPN.com news services Robinson SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio's David Robinson will have to take a pay cut if he wants to remain with the Spurs, owner Peter Holt told Bloomberg News on Thursday. Robinson, 35, made $14.7 million this season, the last of a six-year, $66 million contract. Holt wouldn't say how much he's willing to pay the 7-foot-1 center next season, although it will be much less than $14 million. "If he thinks it'll be more than that, then we might have a problem," said Holt, whose Spurs trail the Los Angeles Lakers 2-0 in the Western Conference finals, with Game 3 tonight. "I don't think about that right now," Robinson said Thursday. "It's not an issue for me. Finishing this year is the issue." Holt said the Spurs will have losses of about $10 million this season, and might break even next season depending on which players re-sign and for how much. Sean Elliott, who made $5.3 million this season, is also a free agent. Holt said he and representatives for Robinson, taken by the Spurs with the first overall pick in the 1987 draft, have had preliminary negotiations. Robinson said he wasn't aware of any talks. Lee Fentress, his agent, couldn't be reached. Robinson averaged 14.4 points, 8.6 rebounds and a team-leading 2.5 blocked shots a game this season, but has struggled in the first two games against the Lakers.
