Allen stunned when his final shot missed

PHILADELPHIA -- Ray Allen thought his last-second tip-in was falling in the basket. He couldn't believe it missed.

Trailing by one point, the Milwaukee Bucks had the final possession and a chance to pull out a crucial victory in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference finals.

But Glenn Robinson missed a 10-footer from the baseline and Allen missed a tip-in at the buzzer.

Jason Caffey's rebound went in after the buzzer sounded and the Philadelphia 76ers beat the Milwaukee Bucks 89-88 Wednesday night to take a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven series.

"I thought it was goaltending, but the referee wasn't calling it," Allen said about his desperation tip.

The Bucks blew a 16-point first-half lead and failed to take advantage of a horrible shooting night by Allen Iverson, who was 5-for-27 from the field and had 15 points.

"It never should have come down to that," Robinson said. "We basically gave them 10 points. We have to make sure that if we go down, we go down playing the right way."

After Eric Snow hit two jumpers to put the Sixers ahead by three points, Caffey scored from the lane with 18 seconds left, and the Bucks fouled Aaron McKie with 13.9 left. The 76ers had made 25 of 26 free throws to that point, but McKie was short on both attempts, setting up the last shot.

Robinson, who missed eight of 12 shots in the second half, got a good look, but it wouldn't fall.

"I think we are in great shape," Robinson said. "Even though Philly won this game, they will probably chalk it up as a loss because we outplayed them. We played better and if we continue to play this well, we will win the series."

Milwaukee wouldn't have needed to make the last shot if it didn't commit two flagrant fouls and get charged with one technical.

"We definitely lost it," forward Scott Williams said. "We can't afford to do that in a playoff situation. This is not the regular season. It came back to haunt us."
