TULSA, Okla. (AP) -- Tulsa has routed Texas Christian twice this season, and Horned Frogs coach Billy Tubbs isn't anxious for a third game.

"I know I sound like their publicity agent, but Tulsa is by far the best team we've played this year," Tubbs said. "They just destroy us inside. They're very quick, very aggressive and they all have great hands. They come up with every loose ball."

Reserve David Shelton scored 20 of his season-high 24 points in the first half as Tulsa (No. 16 ESPN/USA Today, No. 17 AP) built a 30-point lead on the way to beating TCU 103-70 Saturday night.

"That was about as good as we've played in the first half all year," Tulsa coach Bill Self said. "We were relaxed, yet aggressive. We made the extra pass and played like a team, instead of like five individuals as we did the other night against SMU."

"We always seem to get excited and play our best against TCU," Tulsa's Marcus Hill said. "It's almost like they are favored every time no matter what the records. We go in with a chip on our shoulder and try to give them our best effort."

Tulsa beat the Horned Frogs 94-73 at Fort Worth, Texas earlier in the season.

In the rematch, Tulsa (22-2 overall, 7-1 Western Athletic Conference) shot 55.2 percent and had a 45-27 edge in rebounding over the Horned Frogs (13-11, 4-4). TCU, the nation's highest-scoring team at 90.9 points a game, shot only 34.5 percent (19-of-55) and committed 20 turnovers.

Tulsa was unrelenting in establishing the 51-21 first-half lead, tearing TCU apart with its defense and the whirling moves of the 6-foot-5 Shelton, a junior college transfer in his first season with Tulsa.

Tulsa, which shot 58 percent in the half, could have led by more had it not missed 10 of its 11 3-point attempts in the first 20 minutes.

Greg Harrington scored 14 points, Eric Coley and Hill each had 13 and Dante Swanson added 10 for Tulsa.

Shelton came off the bench 2:35 into the game after guard Tony Heard picked up two quick fouls, Shelton responded with three consecutive baskets in helping Tulsa to a 15-2 lead in the first 5½ minutes.

It was 30-14 when Tulsa closed with a 20-7 run over the last seven minutes of the period.

Center Marquise Gainous, who averages 19.4, was held to 11 after scoring just 3 in the first game against Tulsa. Guard Estell Laster led TCU with 17 points and Derrick Davenport had 13.

"Brandon (Kurtz) played very good post defense against Gainous," Self said. "Michael could take anyone out of their game, but Brandon has really improved. He did a great job early and Gainous was no factor after that."
