WACO, Texas (AP) -- For about 25 minutes, Baylor made a game of it with Texas. By the time it was over, however, Texas had laid yet another embarrassing loss on the struggling Bears.

Chris Mihm had 17 points and 12 rebounds for the Longhorns (No. 14 ESPN/USA Today, No. 17 AP) , who held Baylor to just 13 points in the second half for a 60-38 victory.

Baylor's 38 points set a Big 12 record for scoring futility and were the fewest points allowed by Texas since a 38-34 Longhorns win over Texas A&M in 1954.

It was the first time since a 39-38 loss to Arkansas in 1979 that Texas had allowed fewer than 40 points.

"We stuck it to them defensively," Mihm said. "That's what made the difference for us in the second half."

Texas led 24-14 on four straight points by Mihm before Baylor closed the first half with an 11-5 run. Wendell Greenleaf hit two 3-pointers, the second on a high-arching shot from the corner over an outstretched defender with 19 seconds left in the half.

Texas was clinging to a 35-31 lead in the second half before Lawrence Williams sparked a 16-0 Longhorns run with a 3-pointer. Darren Kelly scored seven points in a two-minute span as Texas pushed the lead to 51-31 with 7:47 left.

Baylor, meanwhile, was falling apart offensively against Texas' man-to-man defense. The Bears didn't convert their second field goal of the second half until Tevis Stukes made a fast break layup to stop the Texas run.

Texas held the Bears to 4-of-26 shooting in the second half and 25 percent shooting for the game. Baylor had 17 turnovers and only eight assists. Greenleaf led Baylor (12-11, 3-9) with 13 points, 11 in the first half.

Texas, which had its own struggles offensively against Baylor's zone, turned the ball over 15 times and shot 36 percent.

Mihm, who was only 4-of-13 from the floor, got most of his points from the foul line where he was 9-of-13.

But Texas' offensive misfires mattered little. The front line of Mihm, Gabe Muoneke and Chris Owens allowed Baylor few open looks near the basket. Texas allowed just 12 points in the paint and held Stukes, the Big 12's leading 3-point shooter, to 1-of-13 from behind the line.

"Texas is real strong physically and that really wore us down," said Baylor coach Dave Bliss, who would not let his team talk to the media after the game.

"I'm upset with them," he said. "I thought for 27 minutes we used our heads and were competitive," said Bliss. "Our defense was good enough to win, we're just not a good offensive team."

Texas' victory set up a Big 12 showdown Tuesday against conference leader Iowa State. Texas is the defending conference regular season champion.

"That's the most important game in Big 12 play," Kelly said. "Whoever wins it is in the driver's seat. They're a tough team but they haven't played us yet."
