Luke Recker scored 23 points, Reggie Evans had 20 points and 18 rebounds, and Ryan Hogan made four free throws down the stretch as Iowa beat Missouri 99-94 in double overtime Saturday night.

Alford says the game was won at the free throw line.

"That's the first stat I look for when I look at our offense," said Alford, whose went to the free throw line 50 times but made only 34, or 68 percent. "When you get to the line 50 times, your offense is doing some good things."

The Tigers were whistled for 34 fouls, and they also committed 23 turnovers.

"If there was one thing that was a let-down for us, that was it -- taking care of the ball," Missouri coach Quin Snyder said. "I thought we gave a lot away."

Alford said the physical game took a toll on the Hawkeyes (No. 25 ESPN/USA Today, No. 22 AP), who fouled out three players, including Recker with 20.8 seconds left in the second overtime and Iowa nursing a 95-93 lead.

"I think with Luke fouling out, we didn't want to go to a third overtime," Alford said. "Dean (Oliver) was starting to cramp up. We were very fortunate that we were able to get it done in the second overtime."

Oliver finished with 22 points and Glen Worley had 11 for Iowa (8-0), which is off to its best start since the 1992-93 team opened with 11 straight wins.

Kareem Rush and Clarence Gilbert each scored a career-high 32 points and Tajudeen Soyoyee had 10 points and 10 rebounds for Missouri (6-2), which had its three-game winning streak halted.

A three-point play by Wesley Stokes with 20.8 seconds remaining pulled the Tigers to within two points, 95-93, before Hogan was fouled on the ensuing inbounds play. Hogan, who missed two free throws with 30.8 seconds left in the first overtime, hit both shots to give the Hawkeyes a 97-93 lead with 20.4 seconds left.

Stokes hit one of two free throws to cut the lead to 97-94 with 12.1 seconds to play before Hogan again was fouled. He converted both shots from the line with 9.6 seconds remaining and Rush missed a long 3-point attempt from the left wing as time expired.

Stokes, who finished with eight points, hit two free throws with 29.3 seconds left in the first overtime to force the second extra session. Iowa held a 77-75 lead on Oliver's free throw with 29.7 seconds left in regulation before rush hit a baseline jumper with 15.6 seconds to play that sent the game into overtime.

Recker missed everything on a 3-point attempt from the left corner as time expired.
