Michigan State playbook: Spartan MO

Michigan State attempts to make a return trip to the Final Four this season, and the Spartans are certainly a favorite. Most of the cast from last year's show returns, including Morris Peterson and 1999 Big Ten Player of the Year Mateen Cleaves.

The Spartans struggled without Cleaves for the first 13 games, but Mo' Pete, Charlie Bell and company picked up the slack. Now that they're at full strength, the Spartans have more than enough talent to reach the Final Four and maybe even bring home another national championship.

ANIMATE THIS PLAY DIAGRAM WITH SHOCKWAVE
(A) Mateen Cleaves (12) is the best leader in college basketball, and he runs the show for the Spartans.

(B) Cleaves enters to Andre Hutson (34) and dives in and out of the lane to create space from his defender and get the return pass.

(C) Morris Peterson (42) is one of the best small forwards in college basketball, and defenses have to be aware of him at all times.

(D) Peterson curls off a staggered double from Hutson (34) and A.J. Granger (43) for the dime from Cleaves (12). Peterson is the MO in the Spartan Motion, and he can fill it up inside and out.
