Pennsylvania Quakers
RECORD: 21-9 COACH: Fran Dunphy | SEASON RESULTS | SEASON STATS
OUTLOOK
  • First round: Lost to Illinois, 68-58

    Get the Coach's Edge

Let the experts at Coach's Edge get you ready for the NCAA Tournament with an inside look at the Penn playbook.

Penn is a very disciplined team that does a good job of moving the ball. That makes the Quakers difficult to defend. They don't take quick shots and make the other team play defense. In the first round, if Illinois is not patient offensively, the Fightin' Illini could wind up playing defense the whole game.

The Quakers' best player is Michael Jordan -- surprise, surprise. He was the Ivy League Player of the Year and wears No. 23, even though he claims it has nothing to do with that other Jordan. Another solid player for the Quakers is Matt Langel.

The Quakers played some good teams very tough this season. They lost by four to Temple, by seven to Auburn and by two to Villanova. Penn is solid, but not spectacular. The Quakers are used to playing a possession game, so they aren't easily frustrated.

If Illinois does not come ready to knock them out right away, the Quakers can be a problem. They are very capable. -- Jay Bilas, ESPN
