    Get the Coach's Edge

Let the experts at Coach's Edge get you ready for the NCAA Tournament with an inside look at the Pepperdine playbook.

Rewarded for winning the West Coast conference's regular-season crown, the Waves are back in the Big Dance for the first time since 1994. Coach Jan van Breda Kolff should get a chuckle out of the fact that Pepperdine made the field as an at-large bid, while Vanderbilt -- where he coached until he was forced to resign last season -- was left out.

Seven players average 7.5 or more points per game, but it drops off after that. Brandon Armstrong is a good-sized shooting guard at 6-foot-4, and complements his scoring ability with quick hands and long arms on defense.

This team won't dazzle you on offense, unless its high-pressure defense can force steals and let the Waves get out in the open court. Each of the top seven players had at least 23 steals this season, meaning everybody's looking for the swipe. The team also set a school record with 221 3-pointers -- Armstrong (39.6 percent) and Tezale Archie (39.5) are the biggest threats. -- Greg Collins, ESPN.com
