Syracuse highlight reel

Syracuse Orangemen
RECORD: 26-6 COACH: Jim Boeheim | SEASON RESULTS | SEASON STATS
OUTLOOK
  • First round: Defeated Samford, 79-65
  • Second round: Defeated Kentucky, 52-50
  • Sweet 16: Lost to Michigan State, 75-58

Despite losing to Georgetown in the quarterfinals of the Big East tournament, Syracuse has the conference's the most experienced team because of senior leadership at key positions. With Jason Hart at the point, Ryan Blackwell on the perimeter and Etan Thomas in the middle, the Orangemen have experience and poise and players capable of being go-to players at any given time.

    Get the Coach's Edge

Let the experts at Coach's Edge get you ready for the NCAA Tournament with an inside look at the Syracuse playbook.
  • Play 1 | Play 2
  • Defensively, Hart and Thomas give the Orangemen a strong look up the middle. It starts with Hart's pressure on the ball and ends with Thomas' shot-blocking capabilities. It makes the Orangemen difficult to attack offensively. They also have depth, with Preston Shumpert, DeShaun Williams and Allen Griffin coming off the bench.

Sometimes, their offense has a tendency to take a vacation. They don't execute for certain stretches, and that hurts them. Plus, Thomas can be foul prone if a team attacks him. Without him, Syracuse has trouble defending with pressure and has to go back to the 2-3 zone.

The seniors give the Orangemen a strong NCAA outlook. Whenever a team has experienced players at key positions like Syracuse, it has an advantage over other teams. -- Len Elmore, ESPN
