Temple Owls
RECORD: 27-6 COACH: John Chaney | SEASON RESULTS | SEASON STATS
OUTLOOK
  • First round Defeated Lafayette, 73-47
  • Second round: Lost to Seton Hall, 67-65

There's no doubt who's the most valuable player for this team. Point guard Pepe Sanchez is a terror on defense and a great playmaker/distributor, and the Owls are a different team without him. He won't score much, but he'll stuff the stat sheet with rebounds, assists and steals -- all while taking care of the ball.

    Get the Coach's Edge

Let the experts at Coach's Edge get you ready for the NCAA Tournament with an inside look at the Temple playbook.
Quincy Wadley and Lynn Greer provide zone-busting ability with their 3-point strokes. Mark Karcher can play inside and outside; after shedding 20 pounds from last season, he's much stronger late in the game. Kevin Lyde and Lamont Barnes are imposing threats inside, punishing anyone with the audacity to penetrate on Temple's matchup zone.

Ah yes, the matchup zone. No defense gets more press, and rightfully so. An ill-prepared team (like a second- or fourth-round matchup) won't be able to learn the nuances to it and could be very frustrated. The way to beat it? Don't let it dictate your shot selection. You'll have to shoot well from the outside, and take care of the ball.

Temple was almost unbeatable with Sanchez in the lineup. The Owls will fight and scratch every possession -- to beat them, you'll have to shoot well and hope Wadley and Greer have off-nights from outside. -- Greg Collins, ESPN.com
