Tennessee Volunteers
RECORD: 26-7 COACH: Jerry Green | SEASON RESULTS | SEASON STATS
OUTLOOK
  • First round: Defeated Louisiana, 63-58
  • Second round: Defeated Connecticut, 65-51
  • Sweet 16: Lost to North Carolina, 74-69

Tennessee is a team just loaded with talent. The Vols, blessed with incredible depth, are led by guard Tony Harris, who may be the quickest player with the ball of anyone I've seen this year.

    Get the Coach's Edge

Let the experts at Coach's Edge get you ready for the NCAA Tournament with an inside look at the Tennessee playbook.
Sometimes, though, Harris' quickness gets him into trouble. Coach Jerry Green is helping Harris to become more patient and play more under control. The Vols also have a solid inside game, led by Isiah Victor, C.J. Black and Vincent Yarbrough. They are talented players who can rebound and block shots. Tennessee has a good group of freshmen. Ron Slay, in particular, has been great off the bench.

One game that baffled me was the Vols' 20-point loss to Tulsa in Puerto Rico. I didn't understand why that happened, even though Harris was injured eight minutes into the game.

One weakness they have is directly related to Harris. The Vols sometimes play out of control. If they can rein Harris in, they are a much better club. Tennessee will only go as far as Harris can take them. I expect the VoIs to advance to the round of eight, and maybe the Final Four. -- Larry Conley
