Blackshear seeking transfer

PHILADELPHIA -- Games aren't the only thing Temple is losing lately.
Coach John Chaney is facing a six-game losing streak -- the longest in his 19-year tenure -- and he has suspended one player indefinitely while another player has asked for his release so he can transfer to another school.
Following a Dec. 2 loss to Duke, Chaney suspended freshman forward Carlton Aaron after Aaron "gave some lip" to assistant coach Dan Leibovitz.
Ron Blackshear, a sophomore guard who was ineligible under NCAA academic guidelines last season, called the coach Friday to ask for his release.
"The youngster probably thinks he should be playing a lot more," Chaney said of Blackshear. "He's probably being instructed by somebody. I don't know. I don't ask questions when a kid asks for a release."
Two years ago, Blackshear signed with Clemson. He did not qualify academically so he could not go there under Atlantic Coast Conference rules. Chaney took him but he had to sit out last season.
Chaney said Blackshear was supposed to go to the second summer session. He did not, so Chaney suspended him for the first exhibition game. Their relationship deteriorated from there. He missed a class and Chaney "sent him away from practice."
Aaron isn't likely to be back, either, Chaney said.
"I told him to do well in his books, go home for the Christmas holidays, talk with his mom and see what they want to do," Chaney said. "If he comes back, I'm going to put him on a 10-game suspension anyway."
The Philadelphia Inquirer on Monday quoted Aaron's mother as saying she was "quite sure" her son would transfer, although she and Chaney said Aaron has not yet asked for a release.
